Florals? For spring? Here are three looks from the V&A Menswear show that are actually groundbreaking

Remember Miranda Priestly’s infamous line in The Devil Wears Prada? The V&A’s newest exhibition “Fashioning Masculinities: The Art of Menswear” however proves that florals for men are so much than colourful Hawaiian shirts and kitschy ties. Through intricate embroidery and scattered on seductively sheer fabrics, flowers have never looked fresher. Here are three outfits that take florals to new levels:

Alessandro Michele for Gucci

Bridgerton meets modernity with this lush jade green suit featuring floral jacquard and embroidery. Designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, the playful ensemble is covered in roses head to toe for a look that’s full of romance and visual power. A soft pink bow tie and pearl jewellery round up the style perfectly. We can already picture it rocking high tea at a garden party or  at a cottagecore themed wedding in the countryside. What about you?

JW Anderson

Sheer, airy, sexy – this outfit from JW Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection is everything we could ever wish for this season. “Gender-neutral is not a trend, it’s a reality,” says Anderson, who uses translucent fabrics such as organza and taffeta more typically associated with womenswear to create an alluringly confident look. The delicate flower print in crisp white gives off summer vibes and reveals just the right amount of skin. Turns out florals are actually a guy’s best friend.

Randi Rahm

Without a doubt, the most striking of the three looks. Actor Billy Porter made a splash wearing this floral embellished suit and cape with hot pink lining by Randi Rahm,  a New York-based bridal and eveningwear designer, at the 2019 Golden Globes. And we bet, you would do too! The extravagant floral embroidery and beading delicately entwine across the fabric, making each part of the four piece ensemble an absolute eye-catcher. Maybe skip the cape for a casual night out with friends, though.
